| We are about to wrap up the first month of 2023, and we have visited two new islands since the last newsletter. After being in Le Marin, Martinique, for almost two months, it felt refreshing to move again. We did an overnight sail to Tyrell Bay in Carriacou and finally checked into Grenada! We only made it as far south as Bequia this past hurricane season, so this is our first time revisiting this area since our charter with SailVenture Charters back in 2019. We had a good trip from Martinique to Carriacou, which was one of our best passages to date. Each time we sail, we learn something new: how to trim a sail better, reading the weather, or not to forget to shut the toilet seacocks so water doesn’t splash out! After a couple of fabulous days with our friends on SV Rock-a-Little, we finally raised the anchor to make our way to the south side of Grenada. I like Tyrell Bay in Carriacou, but the NE wind was causing a significant roll, and when a boat bumped us in the night, we were ready to go. We chose to sail down the windward side of Grenada and had a nice flow after a few sail adjustments. The waves were huge and bossy, but Eric steered us well. It got uncomfortable as we rounded down to the island’s south side, and the wind and massive waves were directly behind us. We had a hard time finding a set-up to mitigate the waves that started to roll the boat aggressively. Thankfully, we were closer to our destination, so after a tense hour, we found reprieve from the conditions of the open ocean in the protection of Woburn Bay. We were tired and a bit frazzled but were aware of it and knew we needed to anchor before we could fully rest and decompress. It felt like it took forever, but in about 30 minutes, we found a spot, with the help of some friendly cruisers, in an area with great breeze and no roll! With the anchor down and the boat picked up from the passage, we sat in the cockpit and had a sundowner (beverage) as we discussed the events of the past few days, the things we did well, and the things we can work on. After a restful night’s sleep, I felt renewed in the morning and enjoyed some alone time as Eric slept in. I watched the sunrise, wrote in my journal, and chatted via text with some friends. After Eric got up, he prepared delicious coffee from Martinique in our French Press, and once again, we sat in the cockpit enjoying the view around us. We will not be here for long on this stay, but I hope that on our return, we do get to explore more and connect with all that Grenada has to offer. Until next time, cheers! |

Cheers!
